Obituary
John “Jay” Patrick Howard was born on October 15, 2002 in Louisville, KY to Brad and Beth Howard. Jay departed from this life on February 7, 2024.
Education & Activities
Jay was a 2017 graduate of St. Margaret Mary Catholic School and a 2021 graduate of Trinity High School. Jay was currently a junior at Western Kentucky University, majoring in business. Jay participated in many sports, however most shined on the stage. He performed many roles in multiple plays, including lead roles as Jafar in Aladdin at St. Margaret Mary Catholic School and Detective Holmes in Sherlock Holmes at Trinity High School. Jay was a 2020 participant of the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts in musical theater. Jay had a beautiful singing voice and participated in the Louisville Youth Choir, St. Margaret Mary Encore Choir, and Trinity High School Choir. Jay was also a cantor at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Jay enjoyed the outdoors, was a Boy Scout, and worked hard to become a distinguished Eagle Scout. Jay was helpful, a hard worker, and held positions at Plehn’s Bakery, Chick-fil-a, Frank Otte Nursery, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Longhorn Steakhouse. At Western Kentucky University, Jay was an active member of the Lambda Chi Fraternity and was an awards officer. Jay led the fraternity to a Spring Sing Championship in 2023. Jay loved videos games, grilling and cooking, and playing with his dog, Millie. He was also very loving, kind-hearted, friendly, funny, and gave the best hugs. Jay’s most important role, however, was being a brother.
Family
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings: Katie, Ben, Annie, and Luke Howard. His grandparents: Susan Kennedy, Sharon Howard, Harry and Janice Kennedy. Also, his aunts Carol Baird, Kate Kennedy, and Vanessa (Ben) Hamner. Jay was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack Howard, and his best friend, Davey Albright. The Howard Family would like to thank their friends, neighbors, and the communities of St. Margaret Mary, Trinity High School, Western Kentucky University, and the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity for all their love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the John “Jay” Patrick Howard ‘21 Memorial Scholarship at Trinity High School for a performing arts student. The Howard Family would like everyone to celebrate the beautiful life of their beloved son.
Guests
Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 1-9 PM on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd., Louisville KY 40222. A Mass of Christian Burial Memorial Service will be conducted at 10 AM on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 7813 Shelbyville Rd., Louisville, KY 40222, with a private family inurnment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
