What is WordCamp?
Description of Event
WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. It is the free and open source personal publishing software that powers over 75 million sites on the web. WordCamp Las Vegas 2017 was a labor of love.
I was responsible for the care and feeding of 200 people per day for 2 days (Sold Out!). I kept the drinks and snacks flowing in between the 2 Session Rooms.
For both days, I ordered Lunch (main meal) from some good friends that own 10 Capriotti’s here in town.
My absolute favorite sandwich they make is The Bobbie – Homemade Turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and mayo. It’s like Thanksgiving in a sandwich!
I also spoke on how to get Video in Your WordPress Website.
History
WordCamps come in all different flavors, based on the local communities that produce them. In general, WordCamps include sessions on how to use WordPress more effectively, beginning plugin and theme development, advanced techniques, security, etc. To get an idea of the types of sessions typically seen at WordCamps, check out the WordCamp channel at WordPress.tv.
WordCamps are attended by people ranging from blogging newbies to professional WordPress developers and consultants. They usually combine scheduled programming with conference sessions and other activities. For more information on common WordCamp elements, read about what to expect at a WordCamp.
The first WordCamp was organized in San Francisco by Matt Mullenweg in 2006. Since then, local communities around the world have organized hundreds of others.
If you’ve spent any time reading about WordPress online, you’ll see people talking about WordCamps.
Held in far-flung locales around the globe, these gatherings bring together WordPress enthusiasts and newbies alike. The goal is simple: to share knowledge, grow the platform’s capabilities, and make personal and professional connections. If that sounds fun, well, it is!
